October 9, 2010. White and lemon cake with vanilla and lemon buttercream. Fondant, silk flowers and cake jewelry adorn the cake. The reception was held at 500 Gooch Place.

October 9, 2010. White cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh flowers. The reception was held at the Summit, Downtown Huntsville.

October 2, 2010. White and lemon cake with vanilla and lemon buttercream and ribbon. The reception was held at the Holiday Inn Downtown Huntsville.

September 25, 2010. Red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream. Hand-piped buttercream decoration. The reception was held at the McBurg Community Center in McBurg, TN.

September 12, 2010. White and chocolate layers with vanilla and chocolate buttercream. Buttercream vines, fresh fruit and flowers. The reception was held at Monte Sano Lodge.

August 22, 2010. White cake with vanilla buttercream. Quilt pattern with silver dragees, ribbon and fresh flowers. The reception was held at Huntsville Botanical Gardens.

July 31, 2010. 50th Anniversary Cake. Yellow cake with raspberry filling. The reception was held at the Best Western in Fayetteville, TN.

July 17, 2010. White cake with strawberry filling and lemon cake with lemon buttercream. Fondant shells. The reception was held at J's Special Occasions Event Center.

July 10, 2010. Carrot, lemon and chocolate cake. Red ribbon and fresh flowers adorn the cake. The reception was held at Madison County Green Mountain Nature Trail.

July 3, 2010. White, red velvet and chocolate cake layers. Hand-painted gumpaste flowers. The reception was held at Redstone Officer's Club.

July 3, 2010. White cake with cream cheese buttercream, in hexagonal layers. Hand-set multi-colored acrylic jewels separate each layer. The reception was held at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens.

June 26, 2010. Coconut cream, carrot and white almond cakes covered in fondant. The inspiration for the cake came from the invitation. This is a cake I designed for my brother-in-law. The wedding was in Nashville, TN.

June 19, 2010. Lemon cake with lemon buttercream. The inspiration for this cake was a Chuck Taylor Converse shoe. The reception was held at the Roundhouse Depot.

June 12, 2010. White and chocolate layers with vanilla and chocolate buttercream. Alternating swirl and quilt designs. The reception took place at the Holiday Inn Research Park.

May 29, 2010. Red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream, ribbon and fresh flowers. The reception took place at The Ledges.

A Fabulous January

Wow! January came and went in a blink it seems. It was the month of extreme weather and Bridal Shows!

On Sunday, January 10th, I participated in the Celebrations Bridal Show with An Event To Remember, LLC. The show was fabulous although the temperatures were freezing on the heels of the snow from the Thursday before. But it was sunny and bright on Sunday and everyone seemed to be excited to be at the show.

January 15th was the Creative Business Alliance (CBA) Quarterly event featuring the Artist's Marketplace. The event was rescheduled from the original date of January 8th because of snow. The event was held at Attitudes Day Spa and Salon. I unveiled my free-hand painted Picasso wedding cake in keeping with the event's artistic theme. Even though I was there to work, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and finally had the opportunity to hear the amazing Aretta Hill in person. Her voice is show-stopping!

I created a cake for the Xuiite Photography Studio grand opening on January 22nd (the day after the tornado that hit downtown and the Five Points area) and then participated in the WZYP Bridal Fair on January 23rd, attended the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) monthly LNG (Local Networking Group) meeting on January 25 and ended this final weekend of the month with five consultants - two booked from WZYP show! Whew! February's a short month so that means that things have to slow down a bit, right? I actually hope it's just as busy as January - I wouldn't have in any other way.

And one final note - vote for Beautiful Cakes and Bridals in the WHNT Best of the Tennessee Valley Contest. We've been nominated for best wedding cakes!

This is a little bit late but I am committed to posting more frequently this year. There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon for Beautiful Cakes and Bridals and I hope to bring that excitement to your special event.

Tomorrow I will be assisting Calandra Terry with An Event to Remember at the Celebrations Bridal Event at the Von Braun Center from 12:30pm-4:30pm. The cost is only $5 so make sure you attend this event if nuptials are in your future. The Creative Business Alliance Artist Marketplace has been rescheduled to Friday, January 15, 2010 from 6p-9p at Attitudes Day Spa and Salon. Saturday, January 23, 2010 look for Beautiful Cakes and Bridals at the WZYP Bridal Fair which will also be held at the VBC.

We are still in the process of moving to our new location in Fayetteville. Please be patient as we transition! I promise to keep you updated on the progress and will definitely let the world now when the Grand Opening will take place (hopefully the middle of next month).

Finally, Beautiful Cakes and Bridals is a 2010 nominee in WHNT's Best of the Tennessee Valley Contest. Voting starts January 25, 2010 so make sure to vote for us!

A Great Weekend

What a blast! I spent last weekend in Birmingham attending Style in the Sky, a three-day bridal event produced by Scot Wedgeworth. I had dinner with Sylvia Weinstock, brunch with David
Tutera and attended the bridal show on Sunday at the Summit Club. Our ABC state coordinator also incorporated a quarterly meeting into the weekend. The weather was scary with torrential
downpours and tornado warnings, but that didn't stop the excitement!

The event with Sylvia Weinstock also included a cake design contest. I had the wonderful opportunity to enter a cake in the contest. Each cake was used as a centerpiece on the tables at the dinner. I now have the pleasure of saying that Ms. Weinstock has personally seen one of my cake designs!

The brunch on Sunday with David was really fun. I was amazed at how personable David is. Out of everything I learned that weekend, one tidbit I found particularly interesting is that David said something should happen or chage every 30 minutes to keep guests engaged and interested. This could include somethng as dramatic as moving from one venue to another or something more subtle like changing the lighting or music. Sounds simple but makes sense! I guess that's why he is the event planning guru!
